How to use

Metronome

  • Set the tempo with the number, the slider, the −/+ buttons, or Tap tempo: tap four or more times in time with a record.
  • Groove loads a tempo and feel for a style and starts the click.
  • Beats per bar sets where the accent falls. Most songs are in 4.
  • Clicks per beat splits each beat: 2 for eighth notes, 3 for triplets, 4 for sixteenths.
  • Swing delays every second click when there are 2 or 4 clicks per beat. 50% is straight, about 67% is a triplet shuffle, and 60–64% is the UK garage feel.

Rehearsing with a click

  • Write each song’s tempo in the set list. Its Click button opens the metronome at that tempo.
  • Practise fast songs a few BPM under the target, then at the target, then without the click.
  • Turn off Accent beat one to practise feeling the downbeat yourself.

Tuner

  1. Press Start listening and allow the microphone.
  2. Play one open string and let it ring.
  3. The letter is the nearest note. Needle left is flat, right is sharp. Tune until it turns green.
  4. Tune up to the note. If you go sharp, drop below and come back up.

No microphone? Press a string under Reference tones to hear the note and tune by ear. Press it again to stop.

On bass, if the reading jumps, play the 12th-fret harmonic instead of the open string. It reads more steadily.

Tuning to a keyboard or backing track that isn’t at 440? Change Reference pitch to match it, and the whole band tunes to that.

Drum grid

  • Each row is a drum. Each square is a sixteenth note, and the lighter squares mark the four beats.
  • Press a square to add or remove a hit. Start from loads a 2-step, speed garage or garage rock pattern.
  • Swing works the same as on the metronome. Play the 2-step pattern and move it from 50% to 66% to hear the shuffle appear.
  • Copy link to this beat puts the whole pattern, tempo and swing in a link you can send to your drummer.

Set list

  • Add songs with a title and, if you like, key, tempo, length (like 3:30) and a note.
  • Move songs with the arrows. Edit and Remove do what they say.
  • Enter your slot length to see how far over or under you are.
  • Print gives a big-type list for the stage floor. Copy as text is for sending to the band.
  • Keep several sets with New set. They stay in this browser.

Building a set

  • Open with a song you can play in your sleep.
  • Group songs by tuning to cut dead air.
  • Avoid three fast songs in a row; the tempos on the list show the shape of the set.
  • Print two copies: one for the floor, one taped to an amp.

Keyboard

  • Metronome: Space starts and stops. Arrow keys change the tempo by 1, or by 10 with Shift. T taps.
  • Drum grid: Space plays and stops. Arrow keys move around the grid; Enter or Space toggles a square.
